1/20/2010 - 3/24/2010   Crystal Lake Park District: 2010 Miss Crystal Lake Scholarship Pageant
The Miss Crystal Lake Pageant will be an exciting night of entertainment with performances, great music and dazzling contestants! Sponsored by the Crystal Lake Park District and the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, the pageant is held in conjunction with the Crystal Lake Chamber Expo on Saturday, March 27, at 5.30pm, at South High School. In order to be eligible all contestants need to be available Thursday, March 25 and Friday, March 26, for decoration night and dress rehearsal. Participants compete the night of the pageant in the categories of sponsor speech, formal wear, business attire, and questions and answers. Each contestant will also be judged during an interview with the judges prior to the night of the pageant. The girls prepare for the pageant by attending workshops on personal development, community knowledge and communication. Participants will be expected to attend many community functions such as the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce Mixers on Tuesday nights, as well as perform community service. Participants will also be responsible for securing their own Chamber Business Sponsor. Miss Crystal Lake receives a cash award of $1000 in the form of a scholarship to be used to further her education. She also competes in the Miss McHenry County Pageant, and if she wins, advances to the Miss Illinois County Pageant. Miss Crystal Lake is also required to attend many community functions such as Chamber Mixers, Clean Up Day, Crystal Lake Half Marathon, America's Cardboard Cup Regatta, and the Concerts in the Park, just to name a few. 3/12/2010   Raue Center for the Arts: Awesome 80's Comedy Show
This long awaited reunion show brings the comedy of Judy Tenuta, Bob Rumba and Emo Philips to our stage. They've all appeared on HBO, cable, DVD, compact disc, cassette, VHS tape and 8 track tapes. Judy is the most famous person that ever lived- in her own mind. Just ask her! Emo's weirdness is obviously cherished by his college audiences and older alike, making it very difficult for even the most stone-faced non-fan to resist succumbing to laughter. Despite his Man From Mars demeanor, Emo is one of the most harmless comedians on earth, scrupulously working "clean" in his act. Celebrity look-a-like Bob Rumba is a Midwest-based professional ventriloquist, comic and Hollywood-lookalike (Groucho, Charlie Chaplin, Barney Fife, Stan Laurel, Peter Sellers), in addition to a host of other talents. 3/20/2010   Crystal Lake Park District: Easter Egg Hunt
Celebrate the holidays by bringing your children to our Easter Egg Hunt and for as visit with the Easter Bunny. To help ensure a safe and happy event, children will be separated into smaller groups (ages 2-5 and 6-9 years). Baskets from home are welcome and we will also have bags available. Volunteers from the Crystal Lake Jaycees will staff the Easter Egg hunt. The event will take place at the soccer fields located at the South East and of Lippold Park. In case of bad weather please check the statues of the event by calling the Park district weather information hotline 815-459-7275. 4/10/2010   Crystal Lake Park District: Veteran Acres Fishing Derby
Start the day at the Nature Center with the Crystal Lake Anglers and Nature Center staff for a fun and informative free fishing lesson. Then we will head to the pond and the derby. In the event of inclement weather all participants will be notified by phone. Anyone over the age of 16 must have a current Illinois Fishing License. Participants must be willing to touch worms or come with a partner who will. Fishing poles, tackle and bait will be provided. Catch and release ONLY. Lot's of prizes. Hands on fishing demonstrations. 1:1 instruction in rod and reel combine to create a great time for you and your child. Emmett was the guitarist and singer for the Canadian progressive rock act Triumph in the late '70s and throughout the '80s. Dunlop comes from the rock band Full Nine.Their most recent collaboration, Push and Pull, finds them expanding from their acoustic guitar duo roots into a full band approach, moving further towards smooth jazz. Are you looking for a family activity that gets the kids outside and exploring places you may never knew existed? You should try Geocaching! This is a new, family friendly, activity that involves using GPS technology to find "treasures". It is a great way to spend a day outdoors in locations you may never have found on your own. Created in 1975, the Hershey's Track and Field Games is the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada. Meets take place in every state and every province in North America, and the grand finale- the North American Final Meet - takes place in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Participants may select up to two running events and one field event. Come and enjoy this great event.
